Tina McLean is a member of the K’ómoks First Nation. Tina’s mother Valerie Robertson (Price) is K’ómoks First Nation. Valerie’s maternal grandmother is Louisa Wilson from Church House and grandfather Isaac Frank from K’ómoks. Valerie’s paternal grandparents are Tom and Lottie Price from We Wai Kai First Nation. Tina’s dad Ed Logan is a settler from Cumberland with Scottish, Irish and English heritage.
Tina’s past work for First Nations includes K’ómoks First Nation for over 10 years in roles as: Office Manager, Housing Coordinator, Guardian Watchmen Coordinator, Operations Manager, Assistant Administrator and CAO. Tina has previously worked for Tiičma Management Services as the Administrative Operations Manager and after a year she went back to her nation for just over a year and has now returned to her previous role.
Tina has over 15 years of experience working with First Nations. Tina has strong skills in human resources, cultivating safe spaces, circle facilitation, change management, project management, development of policies and processes, event organization, workplans, budgets, and reporting.
Tina has taken AFOA CAFM program, JIBC Leadership and Conflict Resolution program, LGMA Fundamentals of Local Government, and the Cultivating Safe Spaces Train the Trainer with Elaine Alec through Naqsmist Storytellers.Ā
Elaine Alec was recommended to Tina by a friend. When Tina researched Elaine Alec and her work it was like hearing bells and it was calling to her to take the program to be a trainer. Ever since Tina has taken this training, she has felt like she is on her path and everything falls into place.
Tina has absolute priveldge of facilitating Culitivatig Safe Spaces workshops with Karen Milstein-McKinnon. Tina and Karen met through work (Tina as CAO for K’ómoks First Nation and Karen as Managing Director of the Comox Valley Community Justice Centre). Immediately grew a great friendship realizing they had a lot in common with their passions for community and people.
Tina works for Tiičma Management Services, which is the economic development arm of Ka:yu:’k’t’h’/ Che:k’tles7et’h’ First Nations (KCFN). KCFN village Houpsitas is located on the northern west coast of Vancouver Island that can only be reached by boat or plane. Tiičma’s head office is located in Campbell River on the territory of the Laichwiltch People. One of Tina’s goals is to share the Cultivating Safe Spaces framework and mentor others.
Tina has lived in the Comox Valley her entire life and has raised her 4 children with her husband Dean and many fur babies on the K’ómoks reserve. Tina loves spending time with her family, practicing her culture and learning more about her culture and traditions and Karen as the and her favourite place to be is by/on/in any ocean, lake or river.
