I WANT TO FACILITATE

Cultivating Safe Spaces is more than a workshop or a set of tools. It is an architecture for strengthening human capacity across the self, relationships, teams, leadership, organizations, communities, systems, and society.

The CSS Facilitator pathway is for people who want to move beyond learning the framework for themselves and begin facilitating approved CSS learning experiences with others.

Becoming a facilitator starts with understanding the foundations, developing your own practice, and learning how to create the conditions for people to reflect, regulate, remain in relationship, and take greater responsibility for how they show up.

Your Path to Certification

1. Complete an Intro to Cultivating Safe Spaces

Before entering Train the Trainer, you need to complete an approved Intro to CSS learning experience.

We currently offer two online options:

Intro to Cultivating Safe Spaces eCourse — $149
A structured, self-paced introduction to the CSS framework.

Special Edition Intro to Cultivating Safe Spaces — $199
A seven-lesson learning experience built from a recorded live session with Elaine Alec and the closest online experience to being in a CSS learning space with her.

Both courses meet the Intro to CSS prerequisite for Train the Trainer.

2. Apply for CSS Train the Trainer

Once you have completed, or are in the process of completing, your Intro to CSS learning, the next step is to apply for Train the Trainer.

The application helps us understand:

  • Your experience with CSS

  • Why you want to become a facilitator

  • The people, teams, or communities you hope to work with

  • Your current facilitation or leadership experience

  • Your readiness to work within the scope and responsibilities of CSS certification

Train the Trainer is not an open-access course. Applications must be approved before registration.

3. Complete CSS Train the Trainer

Once your application is approved and your Intro to CSS requirement is complete, you can register for Train the Trainer.

The Self-Paced CSS Train the Trainer prepares you to become a Level 1 Certified CSS Facilitator.

Level 1 focuses on the first two scales of the CSS Architecture:

Self
Who do I need to become?

Relationship
Can two people remain connected while navigating difference?

As a Level 1 Certified CSS Facilitator, you will be prepared to introduce the foundational CSS framework and deliver approved Intro to CSS learning experiences for groups of up to 30 people.

What Does a CSS Facilitator Do?

CSS Facilitators introduce people to the foundational language, practices, and perspectives of Cultivating Safe Spaces.

You will learn to facilitate the core CSS framework, including:

  • The Four Necessary Conditions

  • The Four Protocols

  • The Four Perspectives

  • Understanding self

  • Regulation and trauma

  • Relationships and responsibility

  • How perspectives influence the way we understand and respond to situations

But becoming a facilitator is not simply about knowing the content. CSS asks facilitators to pay attention to how they themselves are showing up. You are not expected to control the room, fix people, or have all the answers.

You are expected to understand your own responses, practise regulation, work within your scope, remain accountable for the conditions you create, and continue learning as you facilitate.

Level 1 Certified CSS Facilitator

Successful completion of Train the Trainer leads to Level 1 Certified CSS Facilitator certification.Level 1 Facilitators work primarily at the scales of Self and Relationship and may deliver approved Intro to CSS workshops for groups of up to 30 people.Your certification is lifetime certification.There is no annual fee required to keep your CSS certification active.

Certification and Membership Are Different

This distinction matters.

Certified CSS Facilitator

Once you successfully complete Train the Trainer, you are a Certified CSS Facilitator.Your certification does not expire simply because you choose not to participate in a paid membership.

Active CSS Facilitator Member

After certification, you may choose to become an active member of the CSS Facilitator Ecosystem.Membership provides additional opportunities for continued learning, resources, professional development, facilitator connection, and visibility through the CSS Facilitator Directory.Membership is optional.You can cancel your membership at any time.If you step away from membership, your certification remains valid. You can choose to re-enrol later if you want to reconnect with the learning community, resources, or Facilitator Directory.

Who Is CSS Train the Trainer For?

  • The CSS Facilitator pathway may be a good fit if you:

  • Already use CSS in your personal or professional practice

  • Facilitate groups, teams, communities, or learning spacesWork in leadership, governance, education, health, human resources, community development, conflict, or organizational change.

  • Want practical tools for strengthening human capacity and relationships

  • Want to introduce CSS within your workplace, organization, Nation, or community

  • Are willing to examine your own practice while learning to facilitate others

  • Understand that certification comes with responsibility and scope

You do not need to be a professional facilitator before applying. You do need to be willing to learn, practise, reflect, and take responsibility for how you carry the work.
